Kyieyan Warlick, 37, was hit by the bullet early Saturday morning and later died from his injuries.  Police say a stray bullet hit him in the groin.

Police in Romulus said a man who was believed to be a bystander to a fight that broke out after a birthday party at a Mexican restaurant was killed by a stray bullet that struck him in the groin.

Kyieyan Warlick, 37, was hit by the bullet early Saturday morning and later died from his injuries. Police said the fight broke out in the parking lot of El Mexicano Bar & Grill following a birthday party at the restaurant around 3 a.m.

Police said two suspects were arguing and the fight escalated with one of the men running over the other man. At some point, one of the suspects pulled a gun and started shooting.

Warlick, who was standing nearby, was hit by a stray bullet in the groin as he was leaving the party and walking to his car. He later died from the injuries. By the time police arrived, both vehicles had left the scene.

Warlick was a father of six children. Just earlier that day, neighbor Trudy Smith said she saw him on the porch with a little boy and girl, and they were in the front yard playing ball.

Police are searching for a black 2009 Chevy Impala a bullet hole in the windshield and a gold 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis with large low-profile chrome wheels and a vinyl or cloth top. (See images above)
