7-month-old dies in house fire on Detroit's northwest side

- A 7-month-old baby was killed in a house fire Saturday on Detroit's northwest side.

The house is located on Lindsay Street and Fargo Avenue.

Sources tell Fox 2 that several children had been left in the care of a 26-year-old babysitter at the home on Lindsay Street near Fargo Avenue. We're told that the house caught fire about 45 minutes after their mother left for work.

Sources say that one of the children was playing unattended near a burning candle when a piece of paper came in contact with the flame. The fire spread to the baby's mattress, killing 7-month-old Michaela Walker.

Eigh Lowe is a neighbor, who says he tried to save the baby, "The house was on fire, it was like three or four other guys going around the house, but they didn't know the family either. they were just like us. Everybody was trying to talk and find out where the baby [was] and so I just went in the house."
He say by the time he went inside the home to find the baby girl, it was already too late.
There has been a Gofundme set up for the family
