Pregnant woman shot and killed on Detroit's west side

Detroit police are investigating after a 21-year-old pregnant woman was shot and killed on Detroit's west side Wednesday night.

The young woman's parents tell police they heard at least five shots just before 11 a.m. outside of their home, which is in the 10300 block of Crocuslawn Avenue. That's in a neighborhood near Chicago W and Wyoming Avenue.

When they looked outside, they say they saw their daughter laying on the ground. Investigators say the woman was shot several times and died from her injuries.

The victim was almost 7 months pregnant. Her unborn child, a boy, also died.

Police have now deployed a tracking dog that followed the suspect's scent to the corner of Crocuslawn. It's believed that the suspect hopped into a car and drove off.

So far, no arrests have been made.

Friends say she worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Co-worker Lee Straughter says the woman was always upbeat. He can't imagine a motive for the killing but says "it had to be personal."
