Man killed in bizarre accident after being pinned, crushed by own vehicle

A seventy-year-old Vietnam veteran is dead after what police are calling a truly bizarre accident. Identified by family, Charles Williamson spent five years as a Detroit Police officer was killed February 23 while working on his van.

Police were dispatched to the 18000 block of Livernois for the reports of an accident shortly after 7 p.m. Monday.

Police say Williamson was attempting to do something to his van in a parking lot near the University of Detroit and the Avenue of Fashion on Detroit's west side.

Williamson was outside of the van, near the front of the vehicle, when the van rolled forward pinning and killing him.
