Metro Detroit girl plays "Lola" on "Empire"

Season one may be over, but "Empire" fans are going to be talking about Wednesday night's finale for a long time.

Plenty of people deserve credit for the show's success, including on talented little girl, who lives in Metro Detroit.

Leah Jeffries is as darling and beautiful in person as she is when she plays little "Lola" on the hit Fox show "Empire." The five-year-old who loves playing with her Barbies plays the surprise daughter of Jamal Lyon until fans recently learned she was actually the daughter of Lucius Lyon. A soap opera story line on a show that has become a phenomenon. But when the cameras stop rolling, for Leah it's just playtime.

"I play with my friends on TV," said Leah Jeffries, who plays "Lola" on "Empire."

All of this a whirlwind for the Detroit native and her family. Mom says Leah was just starting kindergarten when she got her big break. Production Plus, the Talent Shop submitted her photo to the producers of "Empire" and that was it.

"They love her look and if she could read the lines she would be okay. I said okay and she said we'll let you know within 24 hours or so. Well, we got the call like an hour or two and she said she got it and we were just like oh my god, you know we were just excited. And she said the next thing is that we needed to be in Chicago the very next day and from there everything just started moving fast," said Leah Jeffries, Leah's mom.

The family spent the next three months in Chicago where the Fox show is taped. Leah even had her own trailer.

"We were really amazed," said Leah's mom. We were on the phone texting each other like 'oh my god this is unbelievable' we were just last week hanging out at the restaurant here watching them on TV and now we're sitting here and they're holding our daughter and taking pictures."

So here's the thing everybody wants to know, what is Cookie really like?

"Crazy," said the little girl.

"It's really a family, it's nothing but fun and laughter, it's just really fun. I enjoy every time we're there. I just love being in there, she loves it. They just spoil her because she's the only kid on the set sometimes you know, so she gets everything she wants. I have to remind her when she gets back home that you're Leah not 'Lola'," said Leah's mom.

Taping for the season is over and Leah is back in kindergarten. She's getting more attention and admits she likes it.

"They kept saying can I take a picture with you ... I loved it," said the little girl.

Mom says they don't know what the future holds, but for now they are enjoying the show and the ride.

"I enjoy watching her on the scene. I really enjoy it. It's really like a dream come true for her and for the entire family and we're all really enjoying it. I'm very, very proud of her, said her mom.
