Michigan baker creates 25-pound pie to celebrate Michigan's 178th birthday

Michigan turned 178-years-old Monday.

What better way to celebrate then with some good ole fashioned pie to mark the anniversary of Michigan becoming the nation's 26th state.

The bakers at Grand Traverse Pie Company in Brighton created their largest pie ever, a 25-pound cocolossalruit pie to celebrate the special occasion.

The pie was topped with cutouts of the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan.

Free samples were given out Monday at the bakery on Grand River Avenue.

Store owner Gail Denski says the pie contains 15 pounds of apples, cherries and blueberries. Add in the crumbs and pie tin, and you get a HUGE pie that weighs roughly 25 pounds.
