It is a story that is nothing but tragic.

8-year-old Kayale Fruge was hit and severely injured last weekend in what police described as a 'critical accident'. Fruge died 4 days later, June 24th after being taken off of life support by his family members.

Westland police say that around 8:15 p.m. on June 20th, its officers responded to a critical injury accident on Darwin near Delton Court involving a motor vehicle and Fruge. The driver of the motor vehicle fled the scene.

However, with the assistance of witnesses the driver was arrested a short time later. That driver was later identified as Kimberly Garrett, a 38-year-old resident of Romulus. Police said it appeared at the time that Garrett may have been under the influence of illegal narcotics.

Two days later, Garrett was arraigned in the 18th District Court on one felony count of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, one felony count of reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function, one felony count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death, and a misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated/second offense.

The family is having a candle-light vigil Sunday at 7 p.m. at the site of the accident.

The family is also raising money to bury Kayale. There is a fund at PNC Bank under his grandmother's name, Yolanda Fruge.

There also is a Gofundme account as well if you'd like to donate to help Fruge's family.
