Mother of newborn baby found in Roseville recycling center arrested Monday

Detectives at the Roseville Police Department have arrested a 24-year-old woman in connection with the death and abandonment of a newborn baby. That 24-year-old woman we are being told by police is the mother of the deceased infant.

Workers found the body of the baby the night of January 14 while sorting through trash at the ReCommunity recycling center on Groesbeck. The boy is said to have been between 1 and 3 days old.

"At first they thought it was a doll," said Roseville Police Chief James Berlin. "When they looked a little closer they discovered that it was in fact, an infant."

Chief Berlin tells FOX 2 the funeral expenses are being donated by local companies. Local businesses and community members are contributing a casket, headstone and cemetery plot. Burial is planned at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.

Authorities are still working to identify the baby boy, but morgue employees named the child Henry Alexander Macomb, after Macomb County's namesake Gen. Alexander Macomb.

Tips are being sought in the investigation.

Authorities say the woman will be in court tomorrow for her arraignment where the charges may include murder.
