Mother wants justice for son fatally shot outside Family Dollar

A teen was shot to death in a parking lot on Joy Road, now a mother is speaking to FOX 2 looking for answers - and justice.

Theresa Reed lost her son, Marcus Hill, the afternoon of Jan. 7,  it was around 2:30 p.m. He was outside the Family Dollar at Joy Road and Plainview when police say 18-year-old Anthony Baldwin shot him in the head.

"He was 15, I just need somebody to come forward, just say something," Reed said.

Reed says she doesn't know why the two young men argued - just that when it was over her child was dead. But with no video, no witnesses, she's worried there will be no justice for her son.

"I need a witness, they say they don't have a witness," Reed said. "I need a witness, I'm asking somebody to just step forward."

Reed says investigators told her Marcus did have a gun and that Baldwin is claiming self-defense.

But with no evidence her son fired anything - she says he's the victim. And police need help putting his killer behind bars.

"It was broad daylight," Reed said. "Somebody could say something. It's not fair - it's not right for somebody to get away with murder.

The preliminary examination for this case is scheduled for Monday afternoon. Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit police at (313) 596-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP, where you may remain anonymous.
