Emil Salem, who owned Bernie's Market on Garfield Road, was working Thursday night when a gunman walked in and started waving his gun around. Salem is said to have also pulled out his gun, and the two exchanged fire.

Salem was killed and police say the gunfire struck the suspect twice.

The suspect, 31-year-old Ujuan Burton of Oak Park, was later apprehended along with a woman, 30-year-old Shardae Burt of Detroit.

Prosecutors say they are charging Burton on the following four counts:

Count 1) Homicide, felony murder, life felony
Count 2) Robbery armed, life felony
Count 3) Felony firearm, 2 year felony
Count 4) Felon in possession of firearm, 5 year felony

Burt will be charged with Accessory After the Fact to a Felony, in regards to her allegedly taking Burton to a hospital in Findlay, Ohio. Burton will be released from that hospital later Tuesday and will be transported back to Michigan.
