National Weather Service investigating reports of several tornadoes in Michigan

The National Weather Service is investigating reports that several tornadoes touched down across Michigan.

The tornado watch for all of the southeastern Michigan area ended shortly after 3 a.m Tuesday. Reports of tornado touchdowns are coming from Manchester, Millington, Decker and Deckerville.  

Monday afternoon, the weather service confirmed a tornado hit Portland, a town near Lansing. Five people had to be rescued from buildings, but none were seriously injured.

The Sanilac County Sheriff's Department says a tornado touched down just after 10 p.m. on M-53 and Deckerville. Shortly afterward, about 5 miles from Millington in Tuscola County, another tornado was reported. A fire official says at least four houses were damaged. A few people were treated for minor injuries

In Manchester, which is southwest of Ann Arbor, the tornado was reported about 1:30 a.m. Authorities there say buildings were damaged.

More than 30,000 customers with DTE Energy Co. lost power during the storms. Heavy rain also caused freeway flooding in the Detroit area.
