New street blocking fence by Faygo has neighborhood fuming

Faygo has put up a new fence and some neighbors are fuming.

The dispute is a fence that blocks off Moran Avenue making travel inconvenient for residents.

And on Thursday some chose to protest.

"You just can't shut down big city streets," said one protestor who gave the name Tim. "Without years of analysis."

Some residents say, an analysis would show blocking off Moran is dangerous.

"Dark alleys, no lights," said resident Barbara Finch. "Abandoned houses. All these weeds. Anybody could be behind those."

Faygo has been at this location on Detroit's east side off Gratiot since 1945.

Faygo has been around a long time and how come we can't give consideration to the neighborhood in which they thrive," said Dee, an organizer.

But in a statement given to Fox 2, Faygo says it does have concern for the neighborhood, in fact, Faygo was concerned about the potential hazard that its increased volume of traffic posed to other vehicles and pedestrians on Moran.

That's why Faygo went to the city Council and got permission to put up the gate .  And today Faygo was talking to the residents with the help of Detroit police.

And the protesters say they're going back to council to undo what the previous council did.
