New York Stock Exchange resumes trading after stoppage

More than 3 1/2 half hours after the New York Stock Exchanged stopped trading, it has resumed for the day.

The Associated Press reports that the NYSE stopped trading around 11:30 AM Wednesday but only cited a technical problem as the reason for the outage.

According to the AP, shares continued to trade on other exchanges. U.S. indexes sank amid growing concerns that trouble in China's markets could spread.

The NYSE published these three tweets just before 12:30 PM, nearly an hour after trading was stopped:

"The issue we are experiencing is an internal technical issue and is not the result of a cyber breach."

"We chose to suspend trading on NYSE to avoid problems arising from our technical issue."

"NYSE-listed securities continue to trade unaffected on other market centers."
