One dead, two injured after driver crashes into Detroit bus stop

DETROIT (WJBK) – One man is dead and another is injured, after being struck by a vehicle while waiting for a bus Thursday morning.

Detroit police say that at approximately 9:45 a.m. Thursday, a red Mercury Cougar was traveling northbound on Woodward Avenue near West Euclid Avenue.

The driver, a 23-year-old man from Ferndale, crossed several lanes of traffic and struck the bus shelter on the southwest corner of Euclid Avenue and Woodward Avenue. 

The impact killed a 40-year-old man and injured a 22-year-old man, both who were waiting for the bus.  The 22-year-old man is listed in temporary serious condition with neck and back injuries.

The driver also received facial injuries and is listed in temporary serious condition.

The driver of the vehicle was charged with operating while intoxicated.  Police are awaiting the results of a toxicology report.
