This is the first time the statue has worn a Lions jersey, although it has been outfitted with other Detroit sports teams' jerseys during their playoff runs.
"It's not just flipping a jersey on a statue. There's a lot that goes into it. You'll see they have some cranes and lifts there, to actually lift and put it on. They'll have people kind of sewing and making alterations to make sure that it sits properly," says Lions spokesperson Ben Manges.

"This is the start of something new. The start of a new year, obviously, start of a new season for us. Everybody is 0-0 in the playoffs and we're fighting for that trophy with 11 other teams in there, and it all starts Sunday in Dallas," says Lions President Tom Lewand.
The big game against the Cowboys is Sunday, January 4, at 4:40 p.m. You can watch right here on FOX 2.
The Spirit of Detroit is located on Woodward Avenue at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center.
