Police: Body found during search thought to be that of missing Flat Rock man

35-year-old Todd Martinez was a man who kept in constant contact with his family, checking in with his mom up to six times a day.

So when the calls stopped on New Years Eve she knew something was wrong. Since that time, the family has been searching. That search came to an end today when a dive team recovered his body from the Huron River. just a mile from where was last seen alive.

Amanda Hubbard, Martinez's sister said, "he was very loving, he was the best brother.  I'm just lost for words.  I don't know what to say. He was so good, he was a good person. He was loved by everyone."

More than one-hundred people helped a family search for closure on Saturday.

Pat Sell who helped organize the search party said, "we had to wait for the river and ground to thaw, that's why we chose this date."

Flat Rock Police and Fire were among the dozens involved in the search lending whatever help they could.

His family says Martinez battled depression. Martinez was last seen outside his apartment on Atwater Street near Telegraph.  When he never called his family the next day, they got worried and discovered his front door wide open. But, there was no sign of the 35-year-old.

In the months that followed, the family and police searched the surrounding area. The dive team even did a training exercise in the Huron River near his home a month prior but found nothing at the time.

Police say there were certain markings including tattoos that the family were able to identify.

John Leach, Chief Of Police for the city of Flat Rock said the body did not appear to have any suspicion of foul play but did wanted to wait until the medical examiner declared the cause of death. "We do everything by the book, and we preserve everything just in case it shows some foul play. Again at this time we don't have any reason to believe that there is foul play involved but we want to do everything we can."
