Police: Case of 'swatting' possible at Grosse Pointe Park home

Authorities have taken a man into custody they thought held family members hostage in a Grosse Pointe Park home Thursday morning, but now they're investigating this as a possible instance of 'swatting'.

Swatting is falsely reporting an emergency to trick response teams to respond.

Authorities believe that's what happened at a home in the 1300 block of Lakepointe Street Thursday morning, which is near Alter Road and Mack Avenue.

Authorities got a call saying a man had killed his girlfriend. They traced the call back to the Lakepointe address and sent emergency crews there.

When police were able to secure the scene and get into the home, they found the woman alive. Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety Chief David Hiller says a baby was also found inside the home.

Turns out, sources are now saying the call was never made from that location. Authorities believe someone used technology to call from the home's IP address on behalf of the family inside.
