Relatives say the teen had stopped at the gas station and walked over to Cortland between Livernois and Stoepel when she was dragged into an alley and raped
"She's 14 and she's hurting," said a concerned neighbor. "She's hurting."
The victim's aunt asked FOX 2 to only use her voice, a family trying to protect a child who was simply walking home from school Monday afternoon when she was attacked.
Police say at about 3:30 afternoon around 3:30 police say a masked man armed with a gun, forced her into the alley and raped her. He threatened to kill her if she didn't do what he said.
"I want him caught," the neighbor said. "That's the main thing, catching him. But at the same time we can't give too much of a description because he was covered up - everything was covered."
She says he was wearing a black mask, a hoodie and beige Timberland boots.
People who live in the neighborhood are surprised and concerned, surrounded by so much blight - worried it could happen again.
"Our main problem is just keeping the weeds and vacant houses up taken care of, boarded up and stuff like that," said neighbor Lamar Horn.
"Right around from where I live at, a little girl got dragged into the alley and got raped," said neighbor Ms. Amos. "It's just terrible."
The victim's family encouraging everyone to watch out for one another.
"Only thing I can say is, walk them to school, pay more attention to your surroundings," said the concerned neighbor. "That's the only thing I can say. Protect them."
