Police: Woman shoots husband to death, hits child, 8, in crossfire

Police say a Detroit woman fatally shot her husband and an 8-year-old child was caught in the crossfire Monday night on the city's northwest side.

According to neighbors, police had been at the scene for more than five hours investigating what has now been confirmed as a homicide investigation with a second victim shot and taken to the hospital.

FOX 2 is told the woman, 38, has shot and killed her husband and that an 8-year-old girl was wounded and is hospitalized in stable condition. Neighbors say they watched the child get put into an ambulance. Police are investigating if the shooting was accidental.

Deputy Police Chief Renee Hall said that the shooting began with a verbal altercation.

At about 10 p.m. Detroit police wrapped up a homicide investigation at a house in the 18000 block of Fenton Street, just north of 8 Mile Road.

A second child, an 11-year-old boy, was also home but was not injured. Police say the child ran to a neighbor's house for help.

Moments before police cleared the scene, a body was brought from the home on a stretcher and taken away in a coroner's van.

Police are not releasing the names of the victims or additional information about the incident. Neighbors tell FOX 2 they had just moved to the area before this happened.
