Some DPS students to learn golf as part of physical education

DETROIT (WJBK) -- The international golf and life skills program "First Tee" is returning to the Detroit area after a two-year hiatus to help Detroit Public Schools children develop life skills through golf education.

The First Tee of Greater Detroit, shut down because of a lack of funding, is being resurrected through a partnership between the organization and global accounting firm PwC.

They are expected to announce on Wednesday that students in 20 Detroit elementary schools will begin experiencing The First Tee National School Program as part of their physical education instruction.

Nationwide, more than 6,000 schools in 800 school districts participate in the program, which has former President George W. Bush as its honorary chair.
