Students narrowly miss pipe bursting at Oakland University

Two students at Oakland University narrowly missed an icy shower after a pipe burst at a residence hall on campus.

Officials with Oakland University uploaded the video of the pipe as it burst to YouTube on Wednesday.

According to Brian Bierley, the Director of Media Relations for the university, two pipes burst on campus. One was in the Dodge Hall of Engineering and some evening classes were canceled. It was fixed by Wednesday morning. The other pipe is the one in the video above which was shot from the entrance of Oak View. Bierley said the pipe that burst is the first floor sprinkler system.

The video shows a student walking in and notices a drip coming from the ceiling. After she buzzes into the building, she pulls the door tightly behind her and steps out of the camera. At roughly the same moment, another woman is walking up to the outside door. That's when the ceiling gives way and water floods the entry way.

The video shows water streaming into the building as onlookers gather outside to watch.

Bierley said nobody was injured and the damage was repaired.
