Suspects steal running car from gas station, crash it into gas meter

Police are searching for two car theft suspects in northwest Detroit.

Police say Friday morning around 5:30 a black Ford Taurus was stolen from a gas station on 7 Mile Road, near Greenfield Road.

The car theft victim, who did not wish to give his name, tells FOX 2's Roop Raj he left the car running and unattended in the parking lot while he went inside to grab some cigarettes.

The suspects drove off with the car but crashed into a building about two blocks away when they "slipped or tried to make a U-turn," according to the victim. The car struck a gas meter on the building, which consequently caused a gas leak.

The gas has been turned off. The building is by the intersection of Lauder Street.

The suspects got away from the crash scene. Police are looking for them, but do not have much of a description to go off at this time.
