TBT: Cornerstone laid at Detroit Olympia in 1927

Olympia Stadium stood on Grand River Avenue and McGraw Street in Detroit for decades.

This photograph of the stadium is circa 1927, the same year the cornerstone was laid.

The cornerstone for the stadium, also nicknamed the Big Red Barn, was laid in March. The first event happened later that year in October. The first event, believe it or not, was a rodeo.

The stadium was also the home of the Detroit Red Wings until the late '70s.
