TBT: Summer at Boblo Island Amusement Park

The year was 1980 and summer was in full swing at Boblo Island Amusement Park on the Canadian side of the Detroit River.

For this week's Throwback Thursday, we're looking back at Boblo Island which, at one point was a popular destination for Detroiters and Canadians alike.

The 1980 photo was snapped from behind a bed of cardinals at the park and shows attendees walking near several rides attractions including Beyond the Falling Star, the outside of the Fort Fun Activity Area, and part of the Galaxie.

Ths amusement park was on the Bois Blank Island and originally opened in 1898. After almost 100 years of entertaining families, the park closed in 1993.

20 years later, the island is now becoming a community of homes and condos and is served by a private ferry.
