Thieves hit Detroit apartment four times in one month

Four break-ins in four weeks at Detroit's Ryan Court Apartment complex have residents on alert.

Just a couple of days after walking into her apartment after work,  resident Ciara Peterson  said Tuesday she doesn't feel safe inside

"I came in the house at about 3:30 and all of my stuff was gone," said Peterson. "I couldn't eat or sleep for the first two days without someone being here with me."

Peterson says early Sunday, she immediately noticed that someone had been inside.

"My door was open, the back door broken,  screens up," Peterson said.

She had televisions, purses, phones, jewelry, clothes and shoes stolen - and Peterson isn't the only one.

"I came home and my door was wide open," said another neighbor.

Detroit police say four break-ins have been reported in the last month at the complex at 2110 Ewald Cir. near Livernois, including three in the last two weeks.

Five neighbors tell FOX 2 that the thieves like to come through their unsecured kitchen windows and broken doors.

"They just standing out patrolling the neighborhood waiting to see when we leave," Peterson said.

Many neighbors we talked with say the thieves aren't just stealing electronics, jewelry and money but seem to be targeting families.

"They took all my baby's things and some items from myself," said another resident. "I'm due July 24."

Filing police reports, neighbors say they're fed up and are contacting the apartment office. They were told to lock their windows.

FOX 2 got no response from the apartment office on Tuesday. But shown windows and windows with locks, residents say have been broken for months.

"They not doing anything, because if they were it wouldn't be happening to everyone around here," a neighbor said.

Detroit police are collecting evidence and continuing to monitor the area - that many neighbors say they don't plan on calling home much longer.

"For someone to go into your personal items," said one resident. "You just feel violated."
