Three children critical, Pontiac woman in drunk driving accident

Officials in Pontiac say a woman who tested at almost twice the legal limit for alcohol ran a red light and crashed into a car with children as young as two. Now three kids are in the hospital and the woman is locked up.

Police say 24-year-old Ieshia Barnes ran a red light at South Blvd and Woodward Friday night, crashing into the family van.

According to police, the van was sitting in the intersection and waiting to right onto Woodward from South Blvd. Witnesses told police a Chevy Blazer ran a red light and made a quick turn to the left and ended up T-boning the van. A 16-year-old, two-year-old, and three year old were all in the back seats of the van.

All three passengers were critically injured and the three-year-old girl is currently on life support. The driver of the van was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Barnes, who police say was responsible, was given a breath test which registered at .156, police say.

On Monday, Barnes was arraigned on charges of causing serious injury which carry a five year felony. She's being held on a $500,000 bond.
