UPDATE: Brighton gas main break fixed

Residents and those who were evacuated after a gas main break will be allowed to return, officials say.

A gas main break has been fixed near the corner of Second and Main streets at about 8:30 p.m.

Firefighters had evacuated about 25 businesses in downtown Brighton as a result of the break.

The evacuated buildings included city hall, the court building, Lynn's Cafe, The State Bank and others.

A six-inch gas main was struck at about 3:50 p.m. by contractors installing a parking lot.
