11-year-old speaks on recovering after carnival ride accident

OMAHA, Neb. (WJBK) - The 11-year-old girl whose scalp ripped off after her hair got caught in a carnival ride spoke at a news conference Friday as she continues to recover from the horrific accident.

Elizabeth, or "Lulu" Cooksey held on to her mother, Virginia, as the two spoke at the Nebraska Medicine Hospital.

The little girl had multiple skin grafts and recently underwent her fifth surgery to repair her severely damaged scalp. Virginia says doctors took skin from her daughter's right leg to perform the procedure.

Lulu is scheduled to have another surgery on Monday, June 6.

Doctors will determine if they are going to skin graft the front of the girl's head or if they are going to wait.

Lulu was critically injured when her hair got entangled in the machinery of a spinning ride called King's Crown at a Cinco de Mayo festival. She has been recovering at the hospital since the accident. Virginia says they can't wait to go home.
