The incident shows the teacher, Katherine Martin, and a campus adviser, Travis Sims, getting physical with Sims, eventually body-slamming the teacher to the gym floor. Martin said there definitely was some "trash talking," but when she was lifted off the ground by Mims, she was just blown away.
In the video, you see Mims -- a man standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall, and weighing 260 pounds -- pick up Martin and throw her face-first into the floor. Holly Hill Police Chief Stephen Aldrich said, at that point, Mims' actions turned criminal.
"She explained they were in a friendly game after school that happened quite frequently," Aldrich said. "There was a lot of fouling going on, and it just escalated to the point where they had a bit of a verbal confrontations. He followed her across the floor and picked her up and just dumped her onto the floor."
Martin got up, and despite being in a lot of pain, drove herself to the hospital.
Police say she has permanent injuries. Martin said the injuries include a fractured rib and a disk problem in her neck. She also said her feet slammed to the ground hard, her toes are black and blue and toe nails are falling off.
Despite all of this, she said she forgives Mims. She says they've been friends for awhile and played basketball together often.
Police say Mims was remorseful. He was arrested and faces aggravated battery charges.
