WATCH: Dangling semi truck driver rescued on I-94 overpass

A freeway accident left a semi truck cab dangling off an I-94 overpass Tuesday afternoon.

A daring rescue of the driver was performed using a fire department bucket truck. Rescuers told FOX 2 he was happy to be alive, but in a "state of shock" after the incident.

Romulus police say he was trapped inside his truck for over an hour before the rescue took place at the Wayne Road overpass.

The eastbound lanes of I-94 were shut down at Wayne Road for about three hours, reopening at 6 p.m.

Police told FOX 2 that the driver was appeared uninjured - walking and talking - but officials at the scene did not know what the truck was hauling or what the destination was.

The driver appeared to take a selfie photo with his cellphone while in the bucket

The accident happened around 2:45 Tuesday afternoon and police are still investigating what caused the truck to hit the guard rail.

Around 3:30, the driver was pulled from the cab and lowered to safety.

Following the rescue, diesel fuel cleanup was needed at the scene which combined with the accident investigation, forced the freeway's lengthy closure.
