WATCH: Inkster officer in court after police beating video

On the same day the case has been settled, a former Inkster police officer is due in court for his connection with a police beating video.

Police pulled over Floyd Dent back in January for running a stop sign. Dash cam video shows Dent being hit in the face repeatedly by police.

The officer seen in the video has been identified as William Melendez. He has been charged with assault to do great bodily harm. His preliminary examination is Thursday morning.

Dent admitted to running the stop sign that initiated the arrest, but says the cocaine found in the vehicle during his arrest was planted. He was facing drug charges, but those have been officially dropped due to a lack of evidence to support the charges.

Also on Thursday, both sides are expected to be in court to get the judge's approval on the settlement. FOX 2 has confirmed the case settled for $1.37 million.
