West Bloomfield man dies in bicycle crash in Hawaii

A real estate developer from West Bloomfield has died in a crash while riding a bicycle in Hawaii.

Police say 63-year-old Jeffrey Surnow died at a hospital after being hit by a police officer.

Surnow can be seen in FOX 2 archive video when he did an interview with us in 2012 about the Birmingham Bike Festival. 

The crash happened Sunday morning.

The 30-year-old police officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation, which is standard procedure. 

Surnow was the owner of the Birmingham based real estate firm Surnow Company. He was also a philanthropist and avid cyclist.

He leaves behind a wife and three children.
