From Royal Oak to Warren to Roseville and most of the Detroit metro, the loud buzzing could be heard. It lasted about 5-10 minutes but the question from homeowners and commuters remained. So what was it?
F-16 fighter jets from the 180th Fighter Wing in the Ohio National Guard.
The test flights were planned and, according to the Toledo Blade, it was announced that those living in Toledo, Detroit, and Flint would likely see or hear fighter jets.
The jets were flying in close proximity to a Civil Air Patrol aircraft, which are routinely conducted as part of North American Aerospace Defense Command's Operation Noble Eagle, which was initiated after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, according to the 180th's Facebook page.
