"I wish I could skateboard"
Peyton Thomas has been wanting to learn how to skate for months. The girl's mom, Jeanean Thomas, gave her daughter her skateboard so she could learn how to do it. However, the little girl was very timid about rolling at the nearby skate park. Jeanean wrote on Twitter that she had to convince her daughter to go:
"I actually had to convince her that skateboarding wasn't just for boys."
So she did. She got her daughter to get up the nerve and they walked to the park. When they got there, they found it was full of teenage boys who were "smoking and swearing". The two resisted the urge to turn around and go home and Jeanean urged Peyton that the boys don't own the park.
It was a good decision.
Peyton got on the board and rode around for a bit. Until a teenager stopped her. Jeanean was ready to go off on the boy but she didn't need to. He was only stopping her so he could teach her the right way to put her feet on the board.
He showed her how to stand, how to balance, and how to steer. When she fell, he helped her up. He held her hand and even told her to keep clear of the rail so she wouldn't get hurt.
The story she wrote and posted to Twitter, which included a picture of Peyton on a skateboard, has been retweet 16,000 times and picked up on BuzzFeed as well as other pages. Here's the full message:
