Father of six dresses young son as family's own "Elf on the Shelf"

In the magic of the Christmas spirit, families across the nation participate in the "Elf on a Shelf" tradition, where a Christmas elf watches over the home's children to ensure they are indeed being nice, and deserve their Christmas wishes. The elf then "delivers" that information to Santa.

Father of six, Alan Lawrence never had an "Elf on the Shelf" in his home growing up, but the idea of it always intrigued him. He loved the idea of the elf watching the kids, and causing mischief around the home. Then one day, the idea that lead to his next big blog post came to him.

"One day someone told us that Rockwell looked like an elf," Lawrence told FOX 26 of his 4-month-old son. "What if a real life elf came to live with us for the holidays, and how would I react in real life to having it show up to live with us?"

Then the "Our Real Life Elf on a Shelf" was born.

Lawrence has documented over the last 11 days of the "elf" causing mischief around his home. Rockwell has posed as the elf on top of the shower, in the kitchen drinking pancake syrup, and on the family's mantle.

"Day 1: We woke up this morning to find and elf in our family room. Our neighbors seem to think he is part of the “Elf On The Shelf” program but we are still not sure." Lawrence says in his first image post. "He doesn’t talk much, just sits around watching us and eats all of our food."

By day 7, the elf had his eyes set on having fun at the family dinner.

"Day 7: Tonight was the first night the elf ate dinner with us," Lawrence says. "He never broke eye contact with me the entire dinner. I asked him repeatedly to get off the table but he would just throw noodles at me."

Lawrence will continue to document Rockwell's adventures as the "Elf on the Shelf" every day in the next week leading up to Christmas. The project can be followed through Lawrence's blog, That Dad Blog, and through his social media posts on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.

Make sure to keep up with little Rockwell!
