The popular outdoor retailer REI just announced it will be closed on Black Friday.
"You read that correctly. On November 27, we'll be closing all 143 of our stores and paying our employees to head outside," the company's president, Jerry Stritzke, said in a statement.
Instead of shopping, the company is urging its employees and potential customers to go outside instead. And, as mentioned above, REI employees get a paid day off to do so.
The company has created the social media hashtag #OptOutside to spread the word.
"We're a different kind of company - and while the rest of the world is fighting it out in the aisles, we'll be spending our day a little differently. We're choosing to opt outside, and want you to come with us," Stritzke said.
They're asking you share your outdoor plans and photos with them using the hashtag, or on their website www.optoutside.rei.com.
