Woman, 75, trapped by snow, killed in Brighton house fire

A deadly fire in Livingston County serves as an important life safety message.

Firefighters responded to a fire at Sylvan Glen Mobile Home Estates in Brighton early Sunday morning. Someone driving on I-96 saw the smoke and called 911.

Tragically, a 75-year-old woman living alone was trapped inside. The deep snow had buried one of her two doors, and she was found dead just inside her main front door.

Brighton Deputy Fire Chief Mike Evans says firefighters noticed other mobile homes with secondary doors buried in snow.

They say it's a tragic lesson for the community to make sure all exits are cleared in case of an emergency.
