Woman scares off would be robbers in Dearborn Heights

Saturday a homeowner in Dearborn Heights scared two would be robbers who she said were acting as repo men.

Barb Belonge, says she was taking out the trash when she noticed a car that had stopped near her driveway, she quickly became suspicious.

That is when the passenger of the vehicle got out of the car and started to check the VIN of her white Ford Escape parked in the driveway.

"It was really weird," said Belonge. "I didn't even think about getting a license plate (on the suspects vehicle)."

She then approached the man and asked him what he was doing. That is when Belonge says the man said he was looking to repo a white Ford Escape with Detroit stickers, just like hers. However, the man claimed that he had a different VIN, and drove away.

The Belonge's filed a police report with Dearborn Heights police claiming that the men were attempting to steal the vehicle.

Belonge says the incident was very suspicious because the supposed repo men did not present any paperwork or identify themselves. Also, they were in a car and not in a tow truck.

"It makes me really mad actually because I work really hard for everything I have. It is terrible for people to think it is okay to take things," said Belonge.
