Young mom of 3 with cancer gets new house after viewers donate

FOX 2 told her story last week - a young single mother of three battling breast cancer with no place to call home.

After so many people reached out to help, Simone Hearn and her family have a new address.

"I wanted to give my kids a home and everything they deserve," Hearn said a week ago.

Her story broke our hearts - and yours, too. Generous viewers raised $18,000 dollars for the family.

"If I could hug them all, I would," Hearn said.

"I like it very much," said Simyiah Wilson. "I like this room because this room is bigger."

Wilson, 7, took FOX 2 on a tour of her new home in Inkster.

Hearn, just 24 years old and battling stage three breast cancer while trying to work and on the verge of homelessness, was staying with a relative with no electricity.

The money raised enabled Simone to rent a place not far from where she was living. Her daughter will get to stay in her school district, and there's money left for utilities.

"I've been able to get a home and pay up the rent, so I don't have to worry about that," she said.

Little Simyiah wanted a home with "lights" because their home had theirs turned off. Not only are their lights with the new house, but also carpet she was excited about.

But that isn't all.

"I get to have my own room," she said.

And on this day we were able to give Simone a $1,000 dollar donation from another FOX 2 viewer - money Simone wants to spend on something fun for her children.

"They wanted a swimming pool and a swing set," Simone said. "Because we have a big backyard, so I'm thankful for the generous donation."

A big backyard where kids can do cartwheels and a home where Simone can get healthy. She starts another round of chemotherapy next week and then there's the double mastectomy.

"I'll be going under surgery next month also," she said. "So the house came in time so I can recover. I'm thankful for everyone who has donated and who are praying and who are thinking of us."

We're not just thinking of them - but cheering them on.

For those wishing to make a donation to the family, you can do so here via their GoFundMe account.
