WATCH: Pistons Partner with PAL to Start Youth Basketball League

- A press conference was held earlier today at the General George S. Patton Recreation Center in Detroit to announce the Detroit Pistons, including Pistons owner Tom Gores, Vice Chairman of Palace Sports & Entertainment Arn Tellem and President and CEO of Palace Sports & Entertainment Dennis Mannion, donated $300,000 to the Detroit Athletic League to help start a youth basketball league in Detroit.

Besides Tellem & Mannion, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Detroit Chief of Police James Craig & Pistons' greats Rick Mahorn, James Edwards & Earl Cureton among others were there for the announcement.  Pistons' guard Reggie Jackson has been named honorary captain of the league.

“Sports teach valuable lessons about teamwork, leadership and commitment,” Pistons owner Tom Gores said in press release.  “I’ve had the opportunity to coach many youth sports teams myself over the years and have seen the benefits first hand. Kids in Detroit need more opportunities to play in a safe environment and mentors who can help them learn important life skills. Working with Detroit PAL to create this new league extends our commitment to inspire positive change throughout the community.”
