High Wind Warning in effect; 400,000 without power

A High Wind Warning in currently in effect for all of southeast Michigan until 7 p.m. Wednesday. Strong wind gusts are anticipated through the afternoon hours. 

As of 12:35 p.m., DTE Energy says 230,000 people are without power. DTE says they're getting about 1,000 outages a minute, and they have called in crews from other states to help with restoration. You can check DTE's Power Outage map here. The FOX 2 Weather Authority team says the average wind speed will be between 30 - 50 mph until about 4 p.m. Gusts have potential to reach up to 60 mph, though. Those are speeds seen in tropical storms. 

Between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. the gusts will fall down until they eventually reach 25 mph later this evening.

Many downed tree branches and power lines have already been reported. If you see a downed power line, do not go near it.

Counties included in the high wind warning are Bay; Genesee; Huron; Lapeer; Lenawee; Livingston; Macomb; Midland; Monroe; Oakland; Saginaw; Sanilac; Shiawassee; St. Clair; Tuscola; Washtenaw; and Wayne.
