Clinton vs. Trump here

With the Iowa caucuses set for this week, new polling data suggests that in the head to head between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in Michigan, Ms. Clinton holds a slim three point lead which is within the margin of error.

The EPIC-MRA findings show the former Secretary of State at 43%, Donald Trump at 40% and 16% are undecided.

Diving into the cross-tabs,  Ms Clinton wins by 10 points in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties, but Mr. Trump wins by 6 points on the west side of the state and ten points in central Michigan.  The two are tied in the Bay region.

The gender vote shows a split with Mr. Trump getting 43% of the male vote to her 41% and she beats him with female voters by a 7 point margin.  However when you break the gender vote into age brackets, she leads him with men between the ages of 18-49 by 2 points while he takes the older male vote by 5 points.  She leads with older women 46%-35% but it's only a four point margin with women under fifty.

The independent voters prefer Mr. Trump by 40%-32% but she beats him with independent women by four points while he holds a 19 point lead with independent men.

Based on income the billionaire business man does the best with those earning more than $100,000 a year but only by two point while she wins all other income categories by margins that are outside the margin of error.

Moderate voters prefer Ms. Clinton 52%-29% and he gets 65% of the conservative voters while she does better with her base securing 83% of the liberal vote here.

Mr.Trump has some challenges with African-American voters as only 6% favor him while she continues the traditional established by her husband by winning 86% of that vote.  Whites favor Mr. Trump 45%-38% and the "other" category goes 43% for her and 36% for him.
