Stellantis 'outraged' at UAW's latest move

On Monday, the UAW expanded its strike, a move that has outraged Stellantis.

Another 6,800 union members joined the strike, this time walking out of Sterling Heights Assembly.

"Last Thursday morning, Stellantis presented a new, improved offer to the UAW, including 23% wage increases over the life of the contract, nearly a 50% increase in our contributions to the retirement savings plan, and additional job security protections for our employees," Stellantis said in a statement. "Following multiple conversations that appeared to be productive, we left the bargaining table expecting a counter-proposal, but have been waiting for one ever since."

UAW President Shawn Fain had said in an update Friday that negotiation progress had been made with Stellantis and General Motors.

UAW strike losses grow to $9.3 billion

The financial impact of the UAW strike continues to grow, now exceeding more than $9.3 billion in losses, according to Anderson Economic Group (AEG).

The East Lansing-based firm includes losses through Thursday. This number includes lost wages to striking and laid off workers, lost earnings for the Big Three, supplier losses, and dealer and customer losses.

It doesn't include strike targets added after Friday or more layoffs announced on or after Friday. Ford announced the layoffs of 364 more employees on Friday, while the UAW targeted the Stellantis Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, both actions not reflected in these losses.

Several persons of interest in Samantha Woll murder, police say

Police are investigating several persons of interest after the murder of Jewish leader Samantha Woll over the weekend.

Woll was found stabbed to death outside her home in Detroit on Saturday morning. Though police have released few details about her death and the investigation, they said it does not appear to be connected to antisemitism.

"There are some very intricate details about this case that if revealed, could really damage what we're trying to accomplish," Detroit Police Chief James White said. "There are some facts that are known only to our suspect, so I can't get into causation right now or what he or she may feel was that but more to come on that at a later date."

White said police were "just short" of calling one of the persons of interest a suspect at this time.

Detroit police doubled down the murder was not motivated by antisemitism. They also said there was no sign of forced entry into Samantha Woll's residence.

More allegations in Michigan football sign-stealing scheme, AP sources say

Ticket purchases to football games in the name of a suspended Michigan football staffer who is the focus of an NCAA investigation into an alleged sign-stealing scheme have been found by multiple Big Ten teams.

Eleven schools in the Big Ten said they had found evidence that Connor Stalions, an analyst at Michigan, purchased tickets to at least one of their games over the past three seasons, ESPN reported Monday, citing unidentified sources.

The Associated Press confirmed through officials at three Big Ten schools that they had found electronic purchases of game tickets in Stalions’ name. The officials spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to speak publicly about an ongoing investigation.

CDC issues alert over high RSV vaccine demand

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a health alert regarding a concerning shortage of vaccines this fall for respiratory syncytial virus, otherwise known as RSV.

It's the latest headache for parents hunting for a new shot to protect their children against respiratory illnesses when they reach their peak this fall and winter.

The CDC is recommending doctors reserve scare doses of a new therapy, nirsevimab, commonly sold as Beyfortus, to high-risk infants.

The CDC has also urged doctors to stop using Beyfortus for babies aged 8 through 19 months who may already be eligible for another protective therapy called palivizumab, or Synagis. These are commonly given to children with a high risk of severe disease that may be exacerbated by RSV.
