Community outraged about racist graffiti found on a fence in Hamtramck

- The mayor of Hamtramck troubled by racist graffiti found on a fence. The community is now stepping up not tolerating this behavior in their neighborhood.

The mayor Karen Majewski saw the graffiti when she was in the area, snapped a photo and posted it on Facebook.

"In all my time here, my many years here I've never seen anything like this," she said.

The vandalism was first noticed in the summer time, and it appears someone tried to paint over it.

"It’s racist, and sad, no one should go through it," concerned citizen Leo Tufek said.

Many people took to the internet to voice their frustrations about the vandalism.

Since the photo was posted by the mayor she has received many responses of community members offering to help paint over it, and even to organize events to support diversity.

"The response from the city overall has been overwhelmingly one of outrage but also one of support for a diverse city,” Majewski said.
