Volunteers wanted for the Rouge Rescue annual cleanup event

(FOX 2) - Each spring Friends of the Rouge, in partnership with Rouge communities, bring volunteers together from across the watershed to work toward the common goal of improving the Rouge River for generations to come.

The annual river clean up event known as Rouge Rescue happens May 18. Beginning in 1986, volunteers remove large quantities of trash from the river. 

Executive Director Marie McCormick with Friends of the River Rouge sits down with Charlie Langton to talk about the frogs and toads and what they do to signify clean water.

Watch as she demonstrates the "Sound of Spring" with common household objects. 

The cleanup happens May 18th at 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. There are over 30 sites you can come to. Volunteer for the Rouge Rescue by visiting Therouge.org or emailing Friends@therouge.org.
