1 dead, 1 injured in crash in West Bloomfield Twp after driver flees police

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) - One person has died in a crash and another was injured early Wednesday morning in West Bloomfield Township following a brief police pursuit.

The drivers have been identified and the woman is on life support as of this afternoon, according to police. 

The crash happened near the roundabout at 14 Mile and Orchard Lake Road. That area of roadway was closed but reopened around 10:30 a.m.

Police say a traffic stop was initiated in Farmington Hills just before 4:15 a.m. at 13 Mile and Northwestern. The driver did not stop and sped off. 

Police engaged in a brief chase but eventually terminated. 

A short while later, the vehicle was involved in a crash. The driver hit a traffic light pole near the roundabout. No other cars were involved. 

We're told the female driver was taken to the hospital in serious condition, and a male passenger was killed. 

It's not clear yet why the driver didn't stop for police.
