A 22-year-old woman has died after she was attacked by two dogs in Port Huron on Thursday.

The Port Huron Public Safety office says Rebecca Hardy was found in a backyard with severe injuries to her face and neck. It happened in the 1700 block of 10th Street, which is near Oak Street.

Police say a pit bull and a pit bull husky mix were removed from the home and taken to St. Clair Animal Control.

Police say Hardy did not live at that home, and that she entered the fenced-in backyard where the dogs are kept. It is not known at this time why she entered the yard.

The pit bull in the backyard attacked her, and a witness attempted to help her but could not. The witness alerted the homeowner, who came outside to help. At that time, the second dog also started attacking the victim.

The dogs' owner is not in custody and is cooperating with the investigation.

Port Huron is approximatly 60 miles northeast of Detroit.

This is the second death from a dog mauling in the metro area this week. Earlier this week, a 4-year-old was killed in Detroit after being mauled by pit bulls.
