And we thought that all the weird alligator spottings were in Florida. A 4-foot-long gator was found swimming in Lake Michigan, officials in Waukegan, Illinois, said.

The city posted the photo of the gator to Facebook on Monday with the very obvious statement "It is not every day someone reports an alligator in Lake Michigan".

But it happened. The suburban Chicago city said it received the call of the slowly swimming gator in the lake. Then the caller sent video of the swimming alligator as proof.

The Waukegan Police Animal Control and a marine service responded to pull the alligator, which is definitely not supposed to live in Lake Michigan, out of the water. It will be taken to the Wildlife Discovery Center in Lake Forest, Illinois.
