5 big-name concerts in metro Detroit this weekend

- Thousands and thousands of Michiganders will be jamming to some of the biggest names in music this weekend.

Two back-to-back concerts are scheduled at Comerica Park this weekend for the first time ever. On top of that, some big events are happening simultaneously just a few blocks away at Little Caesars Arena.

Journey and Def Leppard are playing Friday night at Comerica Park, while the BIG3 backetball league plays at Little Caesars Arena.

Then, Saturday night, Zac Brown Band will play Comerica while Panic! At the Disco will be at Little Caesars Arena.

"It's a lot of fun and it's great to have all these feet on the ground in downtown Detroit," says Tom Wilson, President and CEO of Olympia Entertainment.

Meanwhile, some great concerts are happening outside of downtown this weekend, too. Weezer and Pixies are playing DTE Energy Music Theatre Friday night, and then Barenaked Ladies will be there Saturday.

Concert-goers will certainly be feeling the chaos downtown, especially with the parking situation. At least 30,000 people are expected at Comerica each night.

But crews inside Comerica will be part of the chaos, too. This is the first time the venue has back-to-back concerts scheduled.

"Doing a stadium concert, it's a big, big deal. And this is the first time we've ever tried to do back-to-back nights with two different artists. I mean, we've had Eminem and Jay-Z in back-to-back; we've had Kid Rock do multiple shows. We've never tried this before but we got artists willing to use the same stage and here we are," Wilson explains.

So what goes in to setting up a stadium concert?

The biggest priority is protecting the baseball field - that's why you'll never see any seats on the infield. Then a plastic floor, so to speak, goes down on the outfield and that's where the chairs will go.
