The workers at Michigan Animal Rescue League (MARL) made a gruesome discovery Sunday morning when they arrived at work: a box full of 7 deceased puppies.

MARL announced the find in a press release Monday morning, saying security footage shows a car pulling into the shelter parking lot a little before 11 p.m. Saturday night.

The person get out of the car, walked to the side door of the building, and put the box on the ground before walking away.

Security footage showed no movement within the box throughout the night.

Based on the way the puppies were stacked inside, MARL officials believe the puppies were already dead when they were left.

"Unfortunately, this is not the first time that we have been faced with a situation like this. There is an animal cruelty and neglect epidemic happening right here in Oakland County," said Magee Humes, Executive Director of MARL, "This is just one really sad example of the kinds of things we see almost every day," Humes concluded.

A report has been filed with the Oakland County Sheriff's Department and anyone with information is asked to call (248) 858-4911.
